In 1906 he married Lillian Vrooman Perry, 1878-1970, a member of a Mormon family originally from Ontario. They had two children who survived infancy, Campion John Jr. and Margaret Florence (Johnson). The Dawsons were neighbours of English remittance man Richard C. "Dicky" Bright.
