Biographical history
Denis Arthur Cretin was born to Hermand Henri Cretin and Marie Philmeme Arbez on September 25, 1894 in St. Claude, Manitoba. The previous year, Henri and Marie immigrated from Bois d'Amont France to Manitoba. While in St. Claude, Arthur and Marie had nine of their ten children: Henri, Denis, Agathe, Helene, Lydie, Albetta, Louis, Marie, and Charles; George arrived in 1911, after the family relocated to a farm in Alberta, 6 miles north, 1 mile east and ½ mile north of the village of Cluny the North East half of Section 3, Township 23, Range 21, West of the 4th Meridian (NE ½ 3-23-21-W4) in 1910. Denis married Aurea Anna Laprise on December 26, 1931. They had three children: Charles Arthur, Jaqueline Jeanette, and Lorraine Aurea. Denis worked as a farmer throughout the Cluny district, as well as operating a threshing business throughout the 1930s. Denis died on January 5, 1988.

The fonds consists of financial records, legal certificates, personal identifiers, and graphic memorabilia created and collected by Denis Cretin dating from 1910 to 1960.
