The Department of Civil Engineering was formed in 1960 in the Faculty of Engineering. A new Civil Engineering wing was opened at the University in 1982. The department approaches teaching by exposing the students to the broad base of the discipline and then allowing options for specialization. At the graduate level, degress offered are PhD, MSc, and MEng. Heads of the Department of Civil Engineering: R.A. Ritter, 1966-1967; R.H. Fonds consists of grant applications, academic and department annual reports, staff meetings, general correspondence, Project Management Advisory Committee files, fundraising, research applications, correspondence concerning the initiation and development of the Project Management Chair, annual reports (1967-1993), and a pamphlet to commemorate the opening of the new Civil Engineering wing in 1982.
