Biographical history

Dorothy Mary "Dode" George, 1916- , was born near Chinook, Alberta. In 1937 she moved with her family to the United Kingdom. During the Second World War she met Joe Lowis, a Canadian soldier, and married him in 1945. In 1948 they settled on a farm in the Poplar Ridge district near Red Deer, Alberta. Around 1980 she was one of the members of the Poplar Ridge Historical Committee, a group established for the purpose of compiling and publishing an historical anthology on the Crossroads, Poplar Ridge, Norma, and Durham districts west of Red Deer. The book, The District's Diary : 95 Years of the Crossroads, Poplar Ridge, Norma, and Durham Districts, was published in 1981. The group, having completed its project, ceased to exist by 1985

The collection consists of drafts of articles and photographs submitted by community members for publication in The District's Diary, pocket diaries of Lorien E. Neil (1918, 1926), and collected ephemera
