The material in this collection was compiled by Don Peacock, [ca. 1930]-2009, former special assistant to federal Agriculture Minister Harry Hays, for the writing of his biography of Hays, Barefoot on the Hill : The Life of Harry Hays. - Vancouver : Douglas and McIntyre, 1986.

Scope and content

The collection consists of biographical sketches; Hays' speeches, newspaper columns and radio broadcasts; transcripts of interviews with and about Hays; two recorded Hays' speeches; Hays' outgoing letters, much of it written on his behalf by Peacock; Hays' campaign speeches and literature; and newsclippings and press releases about Hays' career. Includes extensive photographs of Hays, his family, ranch, livestock, Stampede breakfasts, and political activities.
