Biographical history

Duncan McMurray, 1887-1977, was born in Scotland. A carpenter by trade, he moved to Montreal in 1912, where he was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in Windsor Station. He was transferred to Strathmore, Alberta in 1932 as display agent for the CPR's Immigration and Colonization Department to design and fabricate displays on the theme of Canada's natural resources. These were displayed in major railway stations between Thunder Bay and Victoria. He and his wife, Nora Ford McMurray, 1893-1986, had two daughters, Margaret (Thomson) and Jean (Rozon).
