Biographical history
On December 6, 1976 a large group of residents from around Millet met to discuss fire protection in their rural area. As a result a committee of eleven volunteered their services to research creating a co-op. Their recommendations resulted in the incorporation of the East West Millet Rural Fire Co-op. Memberships were sold for $100 and members were entitled to a discount call out rate of $30 plus the cost of any water trucks where non-members would be paying $500 per call out plus $50 per hour. Over the 25 year period that the East West Millet Rural Fire Co-op operated there were 831 individual shareholders. Annual grants from both the County of Leduc and the County of Wetaskiwin were used to purchase equipment. Funds from memberships maintained an equipment replacement fund. The Town of Millet agreed to house the equipment, in turn for services within the Town. The co-op paid for 25% of the firemen's honoraria for operating their equipment. The East West Millet Fire Co-op operated from 1978 till 2002, however, they dissolved the organization to reform into the East West Millet Rural Fire Department Society in 2003.
Custodial history
Al Hegge, treasurer of the East West Millet Rural Fire Co-op donated the most of the records in 2009. Earl Mardy, the current secretary for the East West Millet Rural Fire Department Society, followed up with a further donation of the Co-op's annual and board meeting minutes later in that same year.
