Biographical history

The Ecological Resource Society of Jasper was established to provide access to environmental information and to promote ecological awareness and participation locally, nationally, and internationally. The society held its first meeting in January of 1991. Marianne Garrah was the first chairperson of the organization, officially starting in February of 1991. The society and the Eco Centre were run on volunteer money and energy. The Eco Centre officially closed in December 31, 1992. The Society dissolved with it.

Custodial history

The Ecological Resource Society records were held at the Jasper Municipal Library until the Library deemed it appropriate the records be donated to the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of materials from the Ecological Resource Society of Jasper, including:;Photographs of society meetings, events, and members and interior views of the Eco-Centre, where the society held meetings and offered resources to its membership;Clippings from the Jasper Booster of related news stories and Society events;Minutes of society meetings and records related to memberships and the governing board. The photographs were removed from sticky photograph pages for conservation purposes;The newspaper clippings were not retained as they were stuck to photograph album pages and taped to paper. They were copied and original pieces can be located in the Jasper Booster Newspaper collection
