    Biographical history

    Eddie Jedeon Shank, the second son of Georges Shank and Marie Adele Doyon, was born in Beauce, Quebec in 1879. In 1906, Eddie and several of his brothers followed their father to Athabasca from Minnesota. In 1909, Eddie married Rosana Goulet, the daughter of Roger Goulet and Josephine Venne. They had 15 children of which 11 survived: Isreal, Alcide, Oliver, Leo, Lida, Elmer, Wilfred, Terence, Edna, and Clarence. Eddie's homestead was 4 1/2 miles SE of Athabasca. He competed in agricultural exhibitions winning first prize for early oats in 1929 at the Chicago International Hay and Feed Show. Several sons were boxers, Oliver representing Canada at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Eddie died in 1963 and Rosana in 1981.

    The fonds consists of biographies of Eddie and Rosana written by their son, Isreal; marriage, birth and other certificates for Eddie and Rosana; and a scrapbook chiefly about Eddie Shank's agricultural competitions and the boxing prowess of his sons. Rosana Shank is one of several seniors talking on an audio cassette. There are 4 photographs of Lida (Shank) Loxam, her husband, Ed, and their daughter, Doreen, as well as a few articles about Doreen in the RCMP.
