Biographical history

Judge Edgar H. Gerhart was born in 1923 in Drumheller, Alberta to Clarence Edgar Gerhart and Mary Gelina Chambers. Edgar married Margaret Frieda Tiffin on March 4th, 1944 at Knox United Church in Calgary, Alberta. Edgar and Margaret had five children: George Edgar Gerhart, Mary Madeline Gerhart, Gail Ann Gerhart, Robert, Henry Gerhart, and Terry John Gerhart. Edgar served as Attorney General for the Province of Alberta from 1968 to 1971. In 1968, he ran unsuccessfully for leadership of the Alberta Social Credit Party; Harry Strom won the leadership race. Edgar died in 1992 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Custodial history

In 1968, Alan D. Ridge of the Provincial Archives of Alberta donated the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. It's unknown how Ridge obtained the material.

Scope and content

The collection consists of material pertaining to Edgar H. Gerhart's political career and includes a pamphlet entitled "The inside News Story of a Leader". The pamphlet features a collage of clippings related to Edgar H. Gerhart's leadership race for the Alberta Social Credit Party.
