Biographical history
Edith Mae (Maisie) Smith attended the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing, 1923-1926. After graduation, she worked in hospitals in High River, Wainwright, Lloydminster and Islay; in the University of Alberta Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton; and as a public health nurse at Wanham in the Peace River district. In 1932 she operated the small community hospital in Spirit River until her marriage and relocation to British Columbia. She remained a member of the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses (inactive status). Mrs. Watts operated two retirement homes in British Columbia: Maple Rest (1957-1965) and St. Jude's Anglican Home (1965-1974). She retired in 1974.
