Biographical history

Edward Joseph New was one of Alberta's Apprentice Plumbers and carried on his mechanic career through the Second World War in the Navy as Chief Petty Officer (Steam Plant Boiler Room) aboard the HMCS Assinaboine during convoy destroyer missions. Following the war and through to his retirement, he ran one of the largest mechanical contracting firms in Alberta - Industrial Power Installations Ltd. Ken New, son of Edward Joseph New, deposited the blueprint in the Hinton Coal Branch Archives in April of 2007. His father, Edward Joseph, found it and had the forethought to know it should be saved. He then passed it on to his son, Ken.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of one linen blueprint of the boiler, piping, fitting and proposed steam main for the Hinton Colleries, drawn in 1937.
