Biographical history
By an act of Parliament in 1874, "half-breed heads of families" were to receive either "a grant of one hundred and sixty acres of land" or "scrip for one hundred and sixty dollars...to be receivable in payment for the purchase of Dominion Lands" at the current price on one dollar per acre. Edward McKay passed away in 1884, therefore his heirs received his entitlement as follows: Caroline, Edward's widow was granted scrip in the amount of $32.00, and each of his 8 children received $16.00, for a total of $160.00.
