Biographical history

Eileen Elizabeth Jameson, 1908-1992, was born at Ballyhamage Ranch near Millarville, Alberta and educated in Okotoks and Calgary. She graduated from Calgary Normal School in 1929 and taught in Millarville, Okotoks and Black Diamond until 1942. She received a diploma from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 and a certificate in obstetrical nursing from the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal in 1948. She began working at the Calgary General Hospital in 1945 as assistant head nurse of pediatrics, was head nurse of maternity nursery, 1946-1950, and head nurse of isolation ward, 1950-1952. She received a certificate in teaching from the University of Alberta in 1952 and began instructing at the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing. She became associate director of nursing education in 1960, and director in 1962, the position she held until her retirement in 1973. She received a BSc in Nursing Education at the University of Minnesota in 1956 and a Masters in Nursing at the University of Washington in 1964. She was involved in numerous nursing associations and served on the executive of the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses. She was also involved in the nomination of her colleague, Margaret M. Street, for an honorary doctorate, and compiled a documentary tribute to her predecessor, Gertrude M. Hall. The fonds consists of correspondence re nursing training (M-577); historical sketches re Public Health Department (M-2458); newspaper clippings, historical information, programs, photographs, reports and position papers written by Eileen Jameson relating to the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing (M- 6241 Box 1); reports by Eileen Jameson regarding nursing education in Alberta, university papers on nursing by Eileen Jameson, and material collected relating to Miss Margaret M. Street (M-6241 Box 2); documentary tribute to Gertrude Hall including her nursing certificates, articles and addresses, and photographs of her and the School of Nursing (M-7124).
