Biographical history

Elsie Park Gowan (nee Young) was a graduate of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta in 1930. Gowan was a playwright and wrote for radio, stage and television productions, mainly on themes and events in Canadian history. She also wrote for the National and Alberta school radio broadcasts and has taught radio and drama writing at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Banff, Alberta, and at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. She received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Alberta and served as Chief Factor of Fort Edmonton Park. Gowan married to Doctor (Dr.) Edward Hunter Gowan in 1933 and together they had at least one son, Gary.

Fonds consists of records pertaining to Elizabeth Sterling Haynes and includes photocopied newspaper clippings dating 1957-1974, a theatre ticket stub, and biographical information.
