Biographical history

Barons Jozef Csavossy, 1894-1979, and Endre Csavossy, 1897-1981, were born in Hungary. They decided to come to Canada after their Hungarian properties were given to Romania after First World War. In 1925 they purchased the Bow River Horse Ranch in the Springbank/Cochrane area of Alberta from Gilbert Goddard. They raised horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and grain at various times and established the Hungarian Alberta Ranching and Investment Company to administer their operations. Jozef married Margaret Cika Jelinek and they had one son Joseph Endre, 1918-1979. In 1970 the brothers retired to Calgary. For further information see "The Exception to the Rule : Barons on the Prairies" in Peoples of Alberta : Portraits of Cultural Diversity / Howard & Tamara Palmer, eds. -- Saskatoon : Western Producer Prairie Books, 1985, p. 316-317.
