Biographical history

Ethel Hastings was likely born in Ruthven, Iowa; she was the daughter of Charles William and possibly Sarah (Wright) Hastings. Ethel came to the Taber, Alberta area with her mother and brother Ordelle in 1911; her father and brother Harry had come to the area in 1909 where they homesteaded the southeast quarter of Section 4, Township 13, Range 17, West of the 4th Meridian (4-13-17-W4). Ethel had taught school in Iowa, and continued to teach once in Alberta. She married John Broderson December 9, 1913. John and Ethel farmed near Retlaw, Alberta until moving to Ryegate, Montana in 1916. Ethel died December 18, 1970.

Custodial history

Carol Newman, granddaughter of Ethel Broderson, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1978.
