Administrative history

The Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary’s facility near Millet is a branch of an organization established in Post War Germany (1947) to reconnect people to the blessings of God. The founders of the order were two Lutheran women, Matter Basilia (Dr. Klara Schlenk) and Mother Martyria (Erika Madauss) and a Methodist Paul Riedinger. They reconstructed Basila’s family homestead into a convent and established an order in Darmstadt. Cannan, the Canadian branch, was established in 1980. They have built a Prayer Garden on their property that contains the Stations of the Cross and is open to the public.

Custodial history

The photographs were collected as part of the Millet and District Historical Society exhibit on churches in 2001. The brochure explaining the facilities was part of their tourism exhibit at the museum.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of seven 4x6 colour photographs of the prayer garden at Cannan, near Millet Alberta and a brochure about the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary.
