Administrative history
The Federated Association of Letter Carriers Local 15 was founded in Edmonton in 1908 by thirteen letter carriers. The local was the second one founded in Alberta, after Local 14 was founded in Calgary at the end of 1907. Both locals were a part of the first union organized for federal employees in Canada, having been founded in 1891. Local 15 would continue to represent letter carriers in Edmonton until the Federated Association of Letter Carriers was replaced by the Letter Carriers Union of Canada in 1966, which subsequently merged with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers in 1989.
Custodial history
The records were created and maintained by the Federated Association of Letter Carriers Local 15 and came into the possession of the Letter Carriers Union of Canada Local 15 when that local replaced the previous local. The records were donated to the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1973.
