Biographical history

Florence Joanne Cameron, [ca. 1910-1990s], attended South Calgary High School, then studied nursing at the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing from 1928 to 1931. After graduating, she practiced as a nurse in Pincher Creek, Alberta until Second World War, when she served as a nursing sister for the armed forces in England, and at the Prisoner of War (POW) camp in Lethbridge, Alberta. She married Arthur F. Mewburn, prominent oilman and son of Dr. Frank Hamilton Mewburn, in about 1956. Her husband died in 1957, after a long illness, and after his death Florence remained in Calgary.

The fonds consists of nursing notebooks (1928-1931); miscellaneous nursing records (1927-1932); South Calgary High School yearbooks (1924-1926); Calgary General Hospital prospectus and nurses' alumnae yearbooks (1927, 1936, 1939-1940, 1942-1947); papers regarding the estate of F.H. Mewburn (1935-1938); letter about a painting of F.H. Mewburn (1960); photograph album of School of Nursing views (1928-1931); and photographs of friends and family.
