Biographical history
Frank Marleau participated in geological surveys under Dr. J.A. Allan, who from 1912 to 1949 was a faculty member in the Department of Geology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta. A professor, Allan also served for a period as head of the department.

The fonds consists of photographs copied from photograph albums of geological survey trips in 1921 and 1922, and primarily includes images of coal mines, mining camps, railroads and towns in Alberta.

Immediate source of acquisition
Frank Stannard, on behalf of Frank Marleau (PR1980.195), and Frank Marleau (PR1980.279), allowed the records to be copied by the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1980. The original photographs were returned to Frank Marleau.
