Adam Lees "Scotty" Freebairn, 1881-1973, was born in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland and came to Pincher Creek, Alberta in 1900. He worked as a cowboy and farmer while apprenticing as a druggist. In 1906 he formed a partnership with W.A. Fraser in a general store and in 1918 established A.L. Freebairn Dry Goods and Ladies Wear which he operated until 1951. He was very active in local sports and business organizations. From the 1940s to the 1960s he published five books of poetry based on his experience in the early west. He also published two books of articles on the oldtimers of the Pincher Creek area. He and his wife, Laura Wright, had five children, John Evans, 1915-2003, Laura (Christopherson), Mary (Farley), Lees, and Agnes (Mitchell).
