History

The Friends of the South Peace Regional Archives Society was founded in September 2013. The first meeting was held in March 2014. Original board members included Charlie Penson (President), Kevin O'Toole (Vice-president), Jeff Nutting (Treasurer), and Karen Burgess (Secretary). The objects of the Society are: to assist South Peace Regional Archives in acquiring, preserving and making its collections accessible; to foster an awareness and appreciation of South Peace Regional Archives and the documentary heritage it preserves; to promote and support programs and services at South Peace Regional Archives; and to access community resources and raise funds for the benefit of the Archives and its clients.

Together with the South Peace Regional Archives Society and staff, the Friends made a presentation to City Council in the spring of 2014, proposing to re-create the historical Montrose School on or near its original site.

The Friends' first fundraising event was the "Raising the Archives" Fall Supper held October 25, 2014.
