Biographical history

Geoffrey Roberts Bidlake came to the Yukon in April 1919. He worked with the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) in Carcross as a baggage man, then on the sternwheeler" Tutshi" as a fireman, and on other river boats as a purser. Mr. Bidlake joined the WP&YR freight office in 1937 and moved to Mayo in 1939. He worked with Pan American Airlines from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Bidlake then started work with the Yukon Territorial Government, retiring as director of the Game Branch in 1968.

The collections consists of two menus from the sternwheeler "Tutshi", two White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) promotional brochures, a newspaper clipping "The Yukon's Record Laker", one copy of the story of Ben-My-Chree, "A Lady in the Wilderness", a newspaper clipping from the Vancouver Sun about Whitehorse, three issues of the Whitehorse Star, and one photograph of a sketch of sternwheeler captain, Ralph Newcomb.
