Biographical history

Gerald S. Charlesworth was born circa (ca.) 1902 to Lionel Clare and Gertrude Charlesworth. Lionel was a longtime civil servant in Alberta, arriving in 1903 in Medicine Hat where he was district land surveyor for the North-West Territories government. Lionel was later Deputy Minister of Public Works and director of water resources for the Alberta Government. Gerald worked for an Alberta-British Columbia boundary survey team, and was a physician and obstetrician in Edmonton, Alberta.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of two photograph albums containing 131 photographs from across Alberta including Peace River, Grande Prairie, Brulé, Red Willow Valley, Pouce Coupe, Spirit River, Jasper National Park, Crowsnest Pass; images include surveyors, camps, horses, views of various towns, buildings, creeks and rivers, Alberta-British Columbia boundary markers, mountains, water falls, riverboats, and the Provincial Mental Hospital at Ponoka and its nurses.
