Biographical history
George E. Webber, 1894-[after 1975], was born in London, England and came to Canada in 1906 with his brother and sisters to join two other brothers who had emigrated some years before. They settled in Regina and then Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In 1909 George moved to Calgary where he worked at the Central Garage. In 1916 he opened Webber's Garage and then formed a partnership with Art Woodly. He sold his share and joined the Royal Air Force in 1917. After the First World War he went into partnership with Don McKillop, but by 1921 he was on his own again and opened Webber's Garage at 909-17th Avenue SW. He was also involved in car racing and won a number of Calgary and Alberta championships in the 1910s and 1920s. He married ca. 1924, had a son, Bob, and a daughter, and was later divorced. He moved to Vancouver ca. 1926 and bought and sold a number of car-related businesses. He then went into the real estate and mortgage business ca. 1930, and married Ethel Hunter, 1902-1955, ca. 1934. He was married a third time to Lena "Lynne" Matchuk of Vancouver, but they separated around 1971. In 1972 George moved into a seniors lodge.
