Biographical history

Georges Shank, 1854-1932, was born in Beauce, Quebec, the son of Joseph Chingues and Marguerite Sylvestre. The original family surname, Chingues, was changed to Shaink, Shink and then Shank by census takers. In 1874 Georges married Marie Adele Doyon, 1858-1900, the daughter of David Doyon and Olympe Grosleau. They had 18 children of which 13 survived: Adelard, Eddie Jedeon, Annie, Emma, George Joseph, Eva, Mary, Philip, Albenie, Raymond, Adeline, Jennie, and Lily. [1880] the family moved to Minnesota. When his wife died in 1900, he left home for several years. He worked in Fort McMurray and later aquired a homestead 1 mile east of Athabasca. He married a widow, Mrs. Lafferty. He later returned to the USA and lived with his daughter, Annie, until his death.
