Biographical history
John H. Routledge, 1888-1978, was born in Stanwix, Cumberland, England and emigrated to Calgary, Alberta via Buffalo, New York in 1909. In 1913 he married Gertrude Emma Craft, 1891-1988, of London, England, who had emigrated from the United Kingdom to Calgary around 1910. John worked as a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) freight agent for many years. Gertrude worked at Pryce-Jones Department Store and Rochon Chocolates in Calgary before she and John moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The fonds consists of transcript of interview with Gertrude Routledge by her grandson John Olson, in which she describes working at Pryce-Jones Department Store (incomplete with some pages missing); photographs of the family and their home; and tiny caricatures drawn by John Routledge, including one of a railway conductor.
