Yakov and Chana Glassman journeyed from Romania to Lipton, Saskatchewan in 1902, brought to the prairie farm colony by the Baron de Hirsh Institute. By 1905 they had become naturalized British subjects. Their son Peter Glassman celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on board ship during their transatlantic crossing. In 1915 the Glassman family moved to Edmonton. Peter married Sarah Kline, daughter of H.B.Kline, in 1919. Both the Glassmans and the Klines were in the jewelry business, H.B. Kline opening in 1911 and Peter Glassman in the 1920's. Peter Glassman remained in the jewelry business until his death in 1949 at age 60. Peter's daughter Miriam was born on November 6, 1924. Miriam's mother Sarah died in childbirth, when Miriam was 5 years old. Miriam's grandparents helped raise her and her older sister Reva. Miriam attended Beth Israel Synagogue, Peretz Shule and then transferred to public school. Miriam was involved with BBYO, Young Judea, Youth Aliyah and Junior Council. Miriam married Joe Lutsky in 1947. Joe and his brother William were active in the growth of Edmonton, developing hotels, shopping centers and office buildings. They have three children: Jack, Reva and Peter, and eight grandchildren. Joseph Lutsky was born in Pinsk, Poland in 1920 to Gertrude and Aaron Lutsky. They emigrated to Canada in 1929. Joseph attended school in Edmonton and enlisted in the RCAF during WWII where he served in England and Tunisia. Joseph and Miriam have been active in the Edmonton Jewish community, as volunteers and benefactors. Miriam Glassman Lutsky died in May, 2005, Joe in 2007.

The Lutsky family immigrated to Canada from Poland in ca. 1925 and Aaron Lutsky opened a general store in Calmar, Alberta. After a few years in Calmar, the family moved to Edmonton where Aaron Lutsky opened a store on 97th Street and 101st Avenue. The Lutsky's lived above the store. The Lutskys had three children: Sarah (Berkovitch), Joe and William. After graduating university, William Lutsky built a sizeable personal fortune through the development of oil properties, the buying and selling of Edmonton real estate, and investments in the stock market. William Lutsky was a supporter of several organizations in Edmonton and made considerable financial donations to the Beth Israel Synagogue and the Edmonton YMCA. The YMCA honoured Mr. Lutsky's contributions by naming a new YMCA facility in south Edmonton in his honour. William Lutsky died in 2000. Joe Lutsky served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service and Clasp. After the war, Joe Lutsky returned to Edmonton, married Miriam Glassman, and went into business with his brother William. Miriam Lutsky died in May, 2005.
