Bowen family fonds

The fonds primarily consists of the records of John Campbell Bowen, but also of his wife, Edith Bowen and daughter, Ruth Bowen, and includes correspondence, sermons, notes, speeches and broadcasts, reports, memoranda of information, pamphlets, programs, certificates, diplomas and scrolls, newspaper clippings, diaries, daily journals while John Campbell Bowen was Lieutenant Governor including a number of materials from the 1939 royal visit, Government House visitors book, visitor calling cards, appointment cards, photographs including John C. Bowen and his family as well as the interior of Government House and a First World War propaganda poster. There is also a transcription disk of John C. Bowen receiving the Legion of Merit for encouraging the cooperation of American and Canadian Forces during the Second World War recorded by CKUA in 1948.

The fonds consists of materials relating to AUCC's study of athletic programs in Canadian Universities. The fonds has been arranged by UACC into series chronologically. The series related to finance was removed by the AUCC. Thus the fonds could be seen as consisting of these series: I. Organization of Study (1973- 1975). Consists of filing system, terms of reference, progress reports and other materials relating to the organization of the study. II. Finance (removed by AUCC). III.General Correspondence (1973- 1975) Series consists of general correspondence and copyright correspondence. IV. Athletic Organizations- Correspondence/ Documentation (1969- 1975) Includes correspondence between AUCC and athletic organizations as well as assorted documentation. V. Universities- Correspondence/ Documentation (1956- 1975) Consists of correspondence between the AUCC and its member universities concerning athletics. VI. Development of Questionnaires, Covering Letters and Mailing Lists (1970- 1974) Consists of questionnaires, student opionnaires, and other surveys of college and university athletics. VII. Report (1974) Consists of draft chapters, French translations, printer's copies and other materials related to the preparation of AUCC's final report on athletic programs in Canadian Universities. VIII. Workshop on Athletics, November 6, 1974 (1974) Series consists of correspondence, draft proceedings and other materials related to AUCC workshop in November 1994. IX. Completed Questionnaires ([1970?]- [1974?]) Completed questionnaires relating to AUCC study on athletic programs at Canadian Universities.

The fonds consists of records of Calgary Transit which date back to the year of its establishment, 1909 and include records created after 1972, when it became part of the Transportation Department. Included are records created under its previous names: Calgary Transit System, Calgary Municipal Railway, and Calgary Electric Railway. The records of the remaining components of The Transportation Department, including the Director's office, Finance and Accounting, Traffic Operations, and Transportation Planning, are described separately in the "Inventory to the Records of the Transportation Department". The records of Calgary Transit include correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, bulletins, publications, lists, directories, ledger books, register books, mechanical drawings, and photographs. There are also some non-record materials, including technical manuals, publications of other agencies, artifacts, tickets, passes, and transfers. The records have been grouped into nine series, based in general on their physical form. The fonds consists of a 36 page booklet entitled "The Athabaska River Country", a compilation of all authentic information available as to the resources and possibilities of the Athabasca river basin. Contents include history, agriculture, transportation, minerals, timber, and game. There are also 7 photographs including scows at Grand Rapids and the gas well at Pelican. This is a revised edition of portions of "The Unexploited West" compiled by Ernest J.Chambers.

City of Calgary. Engineering and Environmental Services Department fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, legal agreements, mechanical drawings, maps, a few field notebooks, and a few photographs. The fonds was formerly known as RG 20 (Record Group 20). Series I is an artificial collection of miscellaneous individual items and small series, dated before 1938. These materials originated from the City Engineer's office and from other departments which later became part of the Engineering and Environmental Services Department. Series II consists of the Annual Reports and other annual publications of the Department. The file list for Series II also indicates the locations of those Annual Reports which are not physically stored as part of the Engineering and Environmental Services fonds. Series III, the largest accumulation of the Department's records, consists of correspondence (including accompanying reports, drawings, maps, legal agreements, brochures, and photographs) which was filed in the City Engineer's office for reference purposes from 1949 onward (including a few 1938-1948 materials). Series IV consists of photographs (not included in other series) documenting the activities and facilities of the Department. Series V, the Safety Files, consists of the records of the Training and Safety Officer, 1967-1974. Series VI includes correspondence concerning the acquisition and early development of the Water Works (1899-1902), and correspondence of the Superintendent of Water Works (1915-1931). The City Archives collection includes other records from various divisions of the Engineering and Environmental Services Department, which have not yet been processed. The accession records and preliminary file lists (if available) are appended to the inventory.
