Biographical history

Leslie Claude Green was born in London, England in 1920. He grew up in Whitechapel and won a full scholarship to the Davenant School. He studied law at the Universities of London, Aberystwyth and Cambridge, eventually obtaining his Doctorate. He joined the British Army in 1941 and was sent to India, where he met Lillian Meyer in 1943. Lillian Denise Meyer was born in Calcutta, India in 1924. She attended the Loretta Convent School and went to Boarding School in Namkum. She joined the British Army as an Officer in 1942. They were married in 1943. After the war, they moved to London, where Leslie taught at the University of London until 1960, when he was offered a job at the new law school at the University of Singapore. In September of 1965, the Greens moved to Edmonton so Leslie could take a position at the University of Alberta in the Political Science Department. He retired in 1991, but continues to consult all over the world and still advises the U.S. and Canadian Military on matters of International Military Law. Leslie recieved an honourary Doctorate in Law from the U. of A. and was inducted into the Order of Canada in 1993. The Greens have one daughter, Ann, who lives in Calgary.

The fonds consists of articles written about Leslie and Lillian Green, a Curriculum Vitae of Leslie Green, oral history interviews of Lillian and Leslie Green, and photographs taken of and by them dating from 1940-2004.
