Biographical history

Ralph Griffin, 1878-1971, was born and educated in Clapton, England. His father, William Griffin, was a farmer. At age 14, he was apprenticed as a printer. By 1896, Ralph worked as a printer on a London newspaper. There he met Ada Eliza Rickett, 1876-1964, a parlour maid. In 1904, he emigrated to Calgary, Alberta. In 1906, Ada joined him in Calgary, and they were married there. The couple then moved to Red Deer, where Ralph worked as a printer for the Red Deer News newspaper. He later worked at the Red Deer Advocate, until retirement. They had one child, Claud William "Mickey" Griffin, 1914-1979, who was employed by Associated Groceries in the 1930s. In 1938, he married Violet A. Taylor, 1911-1977

Custodial history

The records were passed down within the Griffin family until 1974, when Violet A. Griffin transferred them to the Red Deer and District Museum

Fonds consists of correspondence (ca. 1900-1975), family photographs (ca. 1880-1910), Ralph Griffin's apprenticeship indenture (1892), newspapers (1873-1877), invitations, coronation and other royal souvenirs (1876-1902);Fonds is composed of the following series:;I.
