Biographical history
Politician, Community worker, 1902- . Helen (Beny) Gibson graduated from the University of Alberta in 1924 with a Bachelor of Arts. She was active in student activities, especially basketball, being a member of the University team and, after her graduation, the Varsconas. The Gibson family moved to Medicine Hat, where Mrs. Gibson became a member of the Separate School Board, an alderman, and a community worker. In 1967 she received an honorary LLD from the University of Alberta, and in 1973, the Order of Canada.

Fonds consists of these series: I Clippings (1924-1926). Women's basketball at the University. II Correspondence (1922- 1952). Relates in part to women's basketball. III Memorabilia (1961-1973). Includes reception of the Order of Canada. IV Photographs ([1920]-1929). Mainly University buildings and students (460 images). V Publication ([1962]). Thou Art My Only Hope, memoir of Mrs. Beny's late son, Carl Robert Gibson, 1939-1962. VI Scrapbooks (1924-1967). Mrs. Gibson's student days; reception of an honorary degree at the University of Alberta.
