Biographical history
The High River Pioneers' and Old Timers' Association was founded in 1932. Its objectives were to cultivate social interaction for its members and to collect and disseminate information on the history of Alberta. Its membership was restricted to individuals who had been residents of Alberta prior to 1901. By 1960, membership was opened to children of those pioneers, and more recently, the minimum date of residence was changed to 1905. In the 1960s its name was changed to High River and District Pioneers' and Old Timers' Association. A major project of the Association was the compilation and publication of the book Leaves from the Medicine Tree in 1960. This publication was acclaimed as a model for community histories in Alberta. Long out of print, it was reprinted in 2004.
