Administrative history

The communities of Hillhurst and Sunnyside are located in the inner-city area of Calgary, Alberta, immediately northwest of the downtown core. The Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association was reportedly established in 1942. In common with other community associations, it was active in organizing sports, recreational, and social activities for community residents, and as an advocacy group for the community's interests on planning and other civic issues. The Community Association lobbied heavily against the construction of the LRT line on 9A Street NW, and against land development that altered the historic quality of the area. It also operated the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Centre as well as a Community Information Centre.
