History

Jessie Holmes (nee Hothersall) was born on May 14, 1875 in Manchester, England. She married Reverend (Rev.) Robert Holmes in August 1902 and together they had five children, Noel, George, Eunice, Olive, and Aubrey. Holmes and her husband immigrated to Alberta in 1902 and traveled to Lesser Slave Lake where Rev. Holmes took up a position at St. Peter's Mission. In 1905 he took a position at Christ Church Mission at Shaftsbury, Peace River Crossing, and by 1915 the family was living at Lake Saskatoon. Rev. Holmes died at age 53 on July 20, 1916 and Jessie Holmes took a homestead in the area, moving to Edmonton, Alberta some time later. She died in May 1971.
