Montrose House was built on the Forbes' homestead north west of the townsite of Grande Prairie. It was named for Mrs. Forbes' home town in Scotland and served as the village's first hospital.

Montrose School was built in 1917, with a third story added in 1922. It became an elementary school in 1929 when Grande Prairie High School was built.
