Knute Mattsson family fonds

Fonds consists of various images which highlight the families of Pendant d'Oreille, where Knute had a homestead after immigrating from Sweden. Also includes images of cattle branding and dressing antelope after a hunt. Textual records include a letter from Evelyn Parkinson, the daughter of a local Pendant d'Oreille family and ration books used by Knute Mattsson (1945).

The types of records include minutes, correspondence, reports and statistics on emergency services, business plans, performance measures, photographs, video, and sound recordings related to the Fire department. Specific records include annual reports, Red Deer County related records, petroleum tank management, histories of the Red Deer Fire Department, records of the Red Deer Fire Brigade, Western Canada Fire Underwriters Association maps, log books, Ambulance Advisory Committee and other minutes, Fire Prevention annual reports, building surveys, meteorological registers for Red Deer (1934-1958), and the Ambulance Position Paper (Cenaiko Report), Ambulance Operators Association, and service call statistics.

The fonds includes photographic slides of some of the scenery and heritage buildings on the Athabasca Landing Trail, and four slides taken in downtown Edmonton, Alberta in 1977. Of note are images of the original St Mary’s Catholic Church at Waugh, Alberta, before restoration and the Gibbons, Alberta railway water tower which is now located at the Alberta Railway Museum on Hwy 37, north of Edmonton. The slides also include images of the Canadian Northern Railway train station which was renovated by the Athabasca Seniors Society for use as their centre, and the Athabasca Lions Club Rodeo Parade setting up at Athabasca Elementary School (now Landing Trail Intermediate School) in August, 1978.
