Walter M. Woodburn fonds

The fonds consists of original photographs, ca. 1898-1904, primarily of Grand Forks, Yukon. Many images include views of Woodburn's Drug Store and other street scenes in Grand Forks. Also included are views of mining activities, mining machinery and Dominion Day celebrations in Grand Forks. The following photographer's images are represented here: Kinsey & Kinsey; Johnson; Cantwell; E. A. Hegg; and Larss & Duclos. Also included are three mounted official letters dated 1901, 1902 and 1903 giving Walter Mayne Woodburn power of office as postmaster, a pharmaceutical chemist, and the ability to administer oaths and declarations, all for Grand Forks, Yukon.

University of Washington photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs, copied from original images, held at the University of Washington. The collection represents the work of a number of photographers including: Asahel Curtis, E.O. Ellingsen, H.J. Goetzman, Larss & Duclos and Sarvant. The photographs came from three collections at the University of Washington: the Alaska and Yukon Miscellaneous Collection; the Yukon Miscellaneous Collection; and the Child Collection. The majority of the original photographs date from 1899-1901 although the time span of the collection is 1897-1922. Most of the images are of the Dawson City area, but a good portion focus on life along the creeks. Geographic locations include: Adams Hill, Bennett Lake, Bonanza Creek, Chilkoot Pass, Dawson City, Dominion Creek, Dyea Trail, Grand Forks, Miles Canyon and Whitehorse. Subjects represented include mines and mining, boat building, churches, roadhouses, sternwheelers, and sports. There are photographs of a number of individuals and images relating to the Canadian Development Company and the North West Mounted Police (NWMP).

Dawson City Museum and Historical Society collection

This collection consists of photographs from the Dawson City Museum and Historical Society and is made up of several accessions, which have been arranged into series. The first three series are primarily images of Nome, Alaska, created by some of the most well-known gold rush photographers, including Joseph Duclos and Eric Hegg. Also included are images of Dawson City and Mayo, of which five were taken by William S. (Bill) Hare. Subjects include ships and shipping in Nome harbour, 1899-1909; camps, street scenes, the railroad and activity relating to the Nome gold rush. Photographs in series 1 were brought to the museum by Father Bobillier. Series 4 and 5 are primarily photographs of Dawson City and include commercial and institutional buildings, 1900-1909, mines and mining activity in the creeks around Dawson City; portraits of unidentified individuals and many of the Klondike "personalities". Other subjects include sports, the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) and the Yukon Field Force. Series 4 is from an album by H. A. Darms; series 5 consists of a selection of photographs of Dawson City and area, from a number of photographers. The textual material consists of two manuscripts written by Sally Robinson prepared for an exhibit on the Athapaskan people. The collection has been arranged into 6 series based on accession. Series 1: Nome Alaska Shipping (80/132) Series 2: Nome Alaska Gold Rush, Eric Hegg photographs (82/302). Series 3: Nome Alaska Gold Rush (87/67). Series 4: Dawson City Buildings, H. A. Dave Bohn collection

These photographs were collected by Dave Bohn, and were mostly created by Kinsey & Kinsey, photographers. Other photographs were created by Larss & Duclos, Goetzman and Adams & Larkin. The collection consists of 22 original prints and one stereocard. Images include Dawson City, Grand Forks, Eldorado, Hunker and Sulphur Creeks and depict leisure as well as the mining activity in these areas. Individuals represented in the photographs include George Archer, Clarence and Clarke Kinsey, Asa Thurston Hayden, Mary Kinsey, Otto Reinig, James Mason (Skookum Jim), George Carmack and Patsy Henderson. There are also images of dog teams. The stereo card was published by G. W. Griffith in 1900 and is titled "Prospectors at Claim 29, Klondike".

Canadian Museum of Civilization collection

The collection consists of photographs relating to the Yukon's Klondike Gold Rush trail and Dawson City, from 1898-1951. The majority of the photographs (230) are dated 1898-1900 and were taken by Larss & Duclos, and Eric Hegg. Subjects include Dawson City street scenes, businesses, residents, events at the Palace Grand Theatre, mining activity in the Klondike Gold Fields, members of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP), the tent city at Bennett, Chilkoot Pass, pack trains on White Pass Trail, sternwheelers, First Nations women and portraits of Dawson City women (82/273). The remaining photographs are a selection taken by anthropologists during their field work with First Nations in the Yukon. Anthropologist photographers include Catharine McClellan, Dorothy Raines, Douglas Leechman and W.E. Cockfield. The photographs document native lifestyles in the Atlin, Teslin, Carcross, Old Crow, Klukshu, Dalton Post and Burwash Landing areas, in 1927, 1946 and 1951 (91/36). Accession 81/43 relates to the Archaeological Survey of Canada and consists of copies of 50 manuscripts created between 1948 and 1979 on the geology and archaeology of the Yukon Territory. The manuscripts form part of the Archaeological Survey of Canada Collection at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Some are on microfiche (transferred in the 1970s). The textual records include a computer printout of the archaeological sites in the Yukon (81/23) and material on the customs and history of the Pelly Indians (dated 1913 and 1939) from the Poole Field Collection at the CMC (92/38 in-process material). The videocassette is titled "No Gap Where Time Began" and was produced by the CMC in 1994 (94/121).

Canadian Bank of Commerce (Dawson City) collection

The Canadian Bank of Commerce (Dawson City) collection consists of 30 copy prints, 20 x 25 cm. Images are of the Canadian Bank of Commerce employees and the bank building in Dawson City, Yukon ca. 1898-1915. Included in the photographs of the bank are those taken after the fire of January 10, 1900. There are various street scenes of Dawson City, and of settlements or communities thought to be around the Dawson City area. Some images include North West Mounted Police (NWMP) stations. Also included are images of mining activities in the Dawson City area and of buildings in Grand Forks.

Bill Roozeboom collection

The collection consists of 31 black and white prints and accompanying negatives copied by Bill Roozeboom from an album he located in Vancouver. The images include: the reception of Governor General Minto's party which visited Dawson in 1900; Dawson street scenes; mining claims; people crossing the Klondike River; the Trail of '98; stampeders; scenes at Dyea, Lake Bennett, Whitehorse and Lake Laberge. Also images of Fort Selkirk and the Yukon Field Force. The majority of the photographs are by Larss & Duclos. The remainder are by Eric Hegg and Goetzman. The original album contained 40 photographs. Nine of the 40 were not copied as they duplicated images already held by the archives.
