Fonds includes textual records and photographs pertaining to Whymper's Canadian trips, 1900-1909. Excerpts of diaries and "General Notes Upon the Canadian Rocky Mountains," 1900-1909, pertain to trans-Canada trip, 1900; Vermilion Pass, Yoho Valley and Ice River Valley explorations, 1901; observations on the CPR line, The Gap to Revelstoke, 1903; Yoho Valley, Crowsnest Pass explorations including Frank Slide, 1904; Field, 1905; Alpine Club of Canada Camp, Lake O'Hara, 1909. Whymper records detailed observations on scenery, CPR hotels and facilities, Swiss Guides, outfitters, etc. and proposes improvements. Negatives are copies of Edward Whymper's photographs and notes from his trip to the Canadian Rockies, June to August 1901, and pertain mainly to Yoho National Park and the Lake Louise area. Includes sectional panorama views. Photographs were originally part of Whymper's report to the Surveyor-General of Canada.

Franklin Expedition and Arctic Exploration collection

The collection consists of diaries, letters, memoirs, reports and other records created by these individuals involved in searches for the missing Franklin Expedition, as well as other explorers who were comtemporaries of Franklin: Sir Edward Belcher, George Brown, E.N. Kendall, W.H. Hooper, Sir Francis McClintock, Sir Erasmus Ommanney, Sir William Edward Parry, Robert Peary, John Rae, Sir John Richardson, Sir John Ross, Sir Edward Sabine, R.C. Scott, and the Canadian Department of National Defence. Also consists of Robert Hood's diaries of the 1819-1820 Franklin Expedition and photographs of original watercolours painted by Lt. Hood on this Expedition; Robert McVicar's letters; Jane Franklin's signature; and miscellaneous correspondence of Sir John Franklin. Includes Royal Geographical Society articles and documents about Franklin and the Arctic (1825-1928); and records related to the following Arctic visits: M'Clure's navigation of the Northwest Passage (1876); George Back's northern Canada overland expeditions letters (1833); J.A. Cook's whaler's log, San Francisco to Arctic (1905-1906); James W. Allan's manuscript of a whaling voyage (1893); Henry W. Fielden's Arctic voyage diary (1875-1876); O.C. First Flight over the Rockies Commemoratory collection

The collection consists of material commemorating the first flight over the Canadian Rockies in 1919 by pilot Captain Ernest C. Hoy including two formal invitations for the City of Lethbridge luncheon proceeding the ceremony to unveil a plaque, an official program, photographs, and newspaper clippings dating from 1966.

Fonds consists of three series: I. Photographs, 1929-1976; II. Motion pictures, 1936-1964; III. Textual records, 1959-1994. Photographs and films pertain mainly to travel and camping in Europe, Ontario, western Canada and the United States. ACC camps in the Bugaboos, 1959, Fryatt Creek, 1960, Maligne Lake, 1962, and others are documented. Montgomery appears to have made the 35 mm photographs and the films, while Taylor appears to have made the 127-format negatives and superslide transparencies. Textual items are a letter and newsclippings on climbing

Photographs, 1950-1986. Photographs pertain to ski trips, climbing expeditions to Mt. Logan, Mt. Robson, Wapta Glacier, Columbia Icefields, Canoe Glacier, Rodgers pass trip, mountaineering clubs, Trudeau/Bugaboo trip, Assiniboine Lodge, portraits of Lizzie Rummel, Erling Strom, and Jim Davies. Albums consist of photographs taken during ski trips in Austria. Films depict a mixture of skiing and climbing including spring skiing, powder skiing, glacier skiing on Columbia Icefield, heli-skiing in the Rockies and Selkirks and ascents of Mount Logan, Yukon, and Mounts Blackburn and McKinley, Alaska, also rock and ice climbing. Feature length films consist of, or are accompanied by, all or some of the following elements: 16mm originals (A and B rolls); work prints, out takes, 16mm mag track (sound); 1/4" audio tape (background music to accompany narration, 7 items); teasers (TV film clips) and the following items included in the textual records: narration scripts, teaser text, descriptive flyers, press releases, annual pamphlets and ad solicitation for same, censor certificates, related correspondence, maps, oversize promotional posters for Gmoser's films "With Ski and Rope" 1957, and a handmade poster by Banff Ski Runners for "Adventure Bound" and related ephemera.
