Croken Family fonds

The records consist of photographs and personal records from Patty and Rudy Croken and Jennie (Tomshak) Croken. They include P.V. Croken financial records from the P.V Croken Store; Patty’s correspondence from 1956-1973; personal income tax returns for Rudy & Jennie Croken from 1953-1958, and for Patty & Daisy Croken from 1958-1966; farm accounts and wheat board certificates; the papers for building Rudy & Jennie’s home in 1954; and two stories about living in Clairmont, and working in the Grande Prairie Post Office, written by Jennie Croken in 2014. The photographs are a wide assortment of subjects from the Peace Celebration in Grande Prairie in 1919, to Jennie on her travels in 1986.

The fonds consists of scrapbooks containing photographs, stories, paper artifacts, and news clippings covering the history of Hythe from the time it was established as a townsite on the NAR railway in 1929 into the 21st Century. There are also albums of the Hythe Homecoming in 1978, the opening of the Hythe Golden Age Craft Centre in 1981, and Celebrate Hythe in 1989; one album of people and buildings in Hythe ca. 1970-2000. There are also two scrapbooks containing 198 memorial cards to tell us about the people who lived in Hythe, and a loose collection of photographs which cover the history of Hythe from 1916-2007.

The paper records consist of receipts from various Hythe businesses: Frederick Tite, H.W. Reich, Frontier Lumber Company, W.R. Salmers, A.L. MacRae, Harold S. Tveten, Robert Reid, McLeod & Inkster, Chartier Bros., J.P. Gerlinger, F.F. Perdue, G.B. Howlett, E. Hansen, Oakfords, Peasron Garage, Geo. A. Pollock, Light & Swanston Ltd. And F. Adams and Son.

The photographs are described in the order in which they appeared in the scrapbooks.

Downtown Business Revitalization Zone of Grande Prairie fonds

The fonds consists of records of The Central Business Association; executive records of the Downtown BRZ; records of its dealings with the City of Grande Prairie; administrative documents including correspondence and financial records; newsletters and other member communications; projects dealing with beautification, street cleaning, and decorating of downtown; promotions for downtown through special events, parades, trade shows and sales promotions; sponsorship of community events coordinated with other city groups; liason with Heritage Canada; and scrapbooks featuring news clippings of BRZ initiatives.

Eaglesham History Book Committee fonds

The fonds consists of the records of the Eaglesham History Book Committee for the creation of "Smoky Peace Triangle", a history of the Eaglesham, Tangent, Watino and Codesa Areas. The records are divided into files for executive records (minutes and homecoming material); the typed manuscript; and a file of illustrations. One story, called "The Legend of Hog Lake", which did not appear in the book, is in the Executive Records file, and a map of the area showing original land owners and locations of community buildings has been separated to the over-sized map folders. There is also a file of original questionnaires distributed by the Eaglesham School students at the beginning of the project in 1975.

Eaglesham Savings & Credit Union fonds

The fonds consists of a ledger containing the names of shareholders, their shares, deposits and loans from 1946 to 1961; and a detailed report of the activities of the Eaglesham Savings & Credit Union from July 1954 to June 1955. The report was produced by the Government of Alberta, Department of Industries and Labor, Co-operative Activities Branch; it includes a financial statement, an examination of how well by-laws are being followed, bonding and insurance, investments, security of records, loans, delinquent loans, the loan policy, membership, dividends and interest, meetings, board of directors, credit committee, supervisory committee, and books and records. The report concludes with a rating of the officials, administration, loans and records, and recommendations for the Credit Union Board of Directors. The overal rating is Satisfactory (73%).

Ewen MacDonell fonds

The fonds consists of 19 color photographs of the inaugural run on the Alberta Resources Railway—the three hour trip on the final day of the conference. Photographs show the train, the scenery and the dignitaries who were passengers on this trip. A few of the photographs are of a welcoming banquet at St. Joe’s High School and ceremonies marking the opening of the railway.

Gaston Mencke fonds

The fonds consists of Gaston Mencke's memoirs of the McCrae Lumber Co. at Faust, Alberta in the winter of 1947-48, and the Park Bros. Lumber Camp from 1949-1955; 43 photographs of the two camps; and 12 photographs showing modern equipment working at the Weyerhauser Mill south of Grande Prairie in February 1998.
