Annie Glaubitz

Annie Glaubitz arrived in the Crooked Creek area in 1929 with two sons, Herb and Bill, who were 10 and 5 years old at the time. She filed on the NE 24-71-26-W5 and farmed her own land. Here she is with a load of bundles about 1940.

Pipestone Creek Store

Image shows packhorses standing outside of the Pipestone Creek Store. There is a person standing in the doorway of the store. The original description said "Indians and packhorses outside of Pipestone Creek Store. This is a copy of the original photograph made in 2014."

Stanley and Roy Bronson

In 1946, the Bronson boys of Crooked Creek found a deserted new born fawn. On the back of the photograph is the caption: “Crooked Creek Curiosities: Stanley Bronson, age 16, height 6 ft. 7 in., weight 215 lbs. Roy Bronson, age 14, height 6 ft. 2 in., weight 170 lbs. And the little deer. ‘She trots up to you like a dog, Without a sign of fear, For everybody loves her–This darling little deer.'”

Dorothy Beattie, R.N.

Grad photograph for Dorothy Beattie. Dorothy graduated from the University of Alberta in 1950. She was 21 years old. She was Dorothy May Murray at the time of her graduation and married Bill Beattie in December 1950. Dorothy worked in Mayerthorpe Hospital as a new graduate nurse. She then moved to Grande Prairie where she worked in ICU, specialized in cardiology (took another course at the University of Alberta) part time for 3 years. After this she worked part time in extended care the Grande Prairie General Hospital for 7 years. In 1977 Dorothy worked for the WW Cross Cancer Clinic in Grande Prairie. They were a traveling clinic at that time and Dorothy was one of the first nurses to work for them. She retired from nursing in 1987.

St. Joseph’s Academy and School

St. Joseph’s Academy and School on 102 Street, between 103 and 105 Avenue. The original school was built in 1937, with a later addition. In about 1950, the Academy was added as a boarding house for teaching nuns and girls from outside of the City. It also housed a business college.
