Rio Grande School

Smoky Bridge

The bridge over the Smoky River was built in 1949-1950 and was a major advancement to transportation to the south. Before the bridge, a ferry was used in the summer and an ice bridge in the winter but there were seasons in between when neither could be used. This shows the bridge as viewed from the ferry approach.

Hayfield School Boys

Hayfield School District 4661 was organized in 1930 for an area south-west of Beaverlodge. A log school was built in 1933. Smoky Bridge Opening - Parade

The parade includes decorated trucks as floats, some in a line beside the bridge and some proceeding over the bridge, including a team of horses. A crowd of people line the banks. One truck is reported to be carrying the first spinning wheel brought into the area.

Molde School Barn

Molde School District 3518 was formed in 1918 and the school built in 1920. These outbuildings (a school barn and outhouse) were also on the property. Photograph from Corinne Pederson and given to Jeanne Smith.
