Betty Welter fonds

The fonds consists of school memorabilia and paper artefacts from Betty’s childhood, building the Welter family home, and her volunteer activities; certificates and news clippings detailing Betty’s activities with the Canadian Red Cross, and a book of minutes from the Local Association (Mother’s Auxiliary) of Guides, Brownies and Rangers from 1965-1970; a writing portfolio of biographies of the Smart family and Jack Welter, as well as memories of incidents which happened in her childhood, her teenage years and years as a young wife including income tax forms from 1943-1973; a wide subject range of photographs, from local Grande Prairie scenes and people to the construction of the Alaska Highway; and research files containing material researched for the archives: Miller’s Taxi; Teen Town; and a publication "The Inside Track" which traces the history of Union Tractor which Betty's husband Jack worked for. An accrual in 2010 consists of plans and blueprints of the Welter house and their duplex.

The fonds consists of records relating to the activities of the Grande Prairie and District Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities, and its predecessor bodies. The records include correspondence, collected material on projects and events, photographs of Association people, programs, residences, and events, architectural plans for Barrydale Dorm, a copy of the 1976 20th Anniversary cookbook, audio and video interviews and written profiles for the 50th Anniversary website project, and newspaper clippings.

The fonds is arranged in five series based on record content: Executive, Programs, Special Projects, Staff, and Newspaper Clippings. Within the series, the records are arranged by topic, then chronologically.

The fonds consists of 4 pages of memoirs, 3 CDs, and 73 photographs: 9 of Family and Friends, 26 of Grande Prairie and Area, and 38 of Growing up in the Forties and Fifties. One CD is a power point presentation of nostalgic Grande Prairie photographs produced for Grande Prairie ex-patriots reunion held in Edmonton on September 14, 2002. A second CD contains 134 photographs, 38 of which have been printed, borrowed from participants of a 2004 Grande Prairie Alumni reunion. A third CD includes 18 photographs, which have been printed.
