Vance family fonds

The fonds consists of photographs of Helene Lagasse and two of her sisters, Annie Vance attending Athabasca Public School [1912], Annie and Ernest Bulman-Fleming, Annie and her children, and Louis Menard and Helene. The genealogy of the Lagasse, Vance and Bulman-Fleming families is incuded as well as Ernest Bulman-Flemings's service records as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI. The recording includes Gordon and Alan Vance reminiscing with Frank Falconer and Barbara Ashacker in 1983 about Athabasca, teachers, school friends, etc.

The fonds includes hand-written notes by Wasyl Panisiak dated March 27, 1987, Athabasca of his history with Aksana and Sophie who both predeceased him, (no obituary for Aksana on record), souvenir items from Red Star Line, a George VI Coronation Souvenir, May 12th, 1937, small black and white photos of Aksana, and Wasyl and Aksana, Wasyl’s birth and baptism certificate and Affidavit to that effect, Polish passport, immigrant identification card, and naturalization certificate. Aksana’s CPR travel documents, Sophie Stolarz’s birth certificate, certificate of Canadian citizenship, documents in Polish, land purchase and sale documents, CNR/GTR timetable booklet which includes trans-Atlantic steamship sailings tables, correspondence, and various farming receipts.

George Thomas Monson fonds

Volunteers at Athabasca Archives, the public archives at Athabasca’s Alice B. Donahue Library and Archives, created an oral interview project to capture the memories of some of the area’s senior citizens. Vi Kowalchuk, Gene Kowalchuk and Annie Rypien were the interviewers and they recorded 30 cassette tapes and transcriptions of the seniors’ recollections.
