The collection consists of 37 glass plate negatives with matching prints, 11 glass plate negatives without prints and 9 prints without negatives, of a variety of subjects purported to be from east of Edmonton, Alberta dating circa (ca.) 1900 to ca. 1914 including family portraits and portraits of children, buildings, houses, log cabins, parks, a church and cemetery, a baseball game, sleighs, the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) 66th Overseas Battalion, and farm activities such as threshing, ploughing and haying, with some of the agricultural images marked as copyright R. Weaver.

Textual records are excerpts from the Earle Birney papers pertaining to Banff and the Canadian Rockies; including correspondence, 1918-1924, biographical material, 1971, drafts of poems, 1941-1952, printed material, 1948-1970, and Birney family correspondence, 1896-1917. Poems include: "Ballad of Kootenay Brown", "Biography", "Bushed", "Conrad Kain", "Holiday in the Foothills", "Leaving Yellowstone", "Oldster". Correspondence is mainly from Charles Brown to Birney. The fonds consists of 1 audio cassette recorded in 2001, 4 Depression Era glass plates, a plaque from the Trail North Foundation naming Dr. Brown Deputy Trail Master, 1980; a vase purchased from Mrs. George Kasper Johnson and a 1978 Athabasca dollar (a souvenir of the May 27-29, 1978 trip to the Grande Rapids). Added in 2005 is a booklet and a plaque naming Dr. Brown as one of the 100 Physicians of the Century in Alberta. There is a framed photograph of Dr. Brown while she was in practice and photos taken at the 2005 award ceremony. 21.04; handwritten personal letter dated May 3, 1989

There is a programme for the Master Farm Family award, 1965, which was given to the Mike Dupilka family. Fonds also includes a copy of a cancelled cheque given to Josephine Dupilka for caretaking at Baptiste Lake School in 1927.

Also included in this series are two diaries of his wife Dorothea. Scrapbooks pertain to school life, military training, surveyor's training; Alpine Club of Canada activities and lecture activities; military career, 1910-1919; surveying and mountaineering activities; Mount Everest expedition of 1921. Other material consists of items found loose in the 1946-1948 diaries, including letter written on board ship from Asia to the United States, 1947; photographs of unidentified women, 2 items; and postcard of Vancouver City Hall
