Municipal District of Spirit River No. 133 fonds

The fonds consists of records related to the administration and activities of the Municipal District of Spirit River including holding council meetings, passing by-laws, administering the M.D.’s finances, and assessing property and collecting taxes. The fonds also includes associated records containing historical information about the M.D. and vital statistics relating to the M.D.’s residents. The material dates from 1917 to 2001 and includes records such as minutes, by-laws, financial statements, cash books, general ledgers, miscellaneous financial ledgers, assessment and tax rolls and forms, tax arrears lists, miscellaneous tax ledgers, newspaper clippings, photographs, burial registers, and birth, marriage and death registers.

The fonds is divided into five series based on record type and content: Executive records, Financial records, Tax records, Historical Information, and Provincial Vital Statistics Registers. Most of the records were originally housed in binders, ledgers, and bound books, many of which have been retained in their original form. In general, the archivist has arranged these ledgers and books according to type and chronology, maintaining original order in most cases.

Nick Poohkay fonds

The fonds consists of the personal papers and photographs of Nick Poohkay and his wife Mary (Dworakowski) Poohkay, an interview of Nick Poohkay regarding the development of the Eaglesham area, records for their farm near Eaglesham from the first crop in 1950, records of organizations which Nick was involved in, and financial records for the couple.

Nicolas and Erena Woronuk fonds

The fonds consists of two copies of a biographical account of Nicholas (Nylolai) Woronuk and family, written in Ukrainian by a niece, Mrs. John Bzovey of Rycroft. The document was typed and and edited by I. Goresky, of Edmonton, and tells of the family's epic journey from Edson to Grande Prairie in 1913. Included in the fonds are a shorter account of the story, in English, as published in "Ukrainians in Alberta"; additional hand written accounts from the Woronuk family in English and Ukrainian; and a letter from I. Goresky to Dr. Jerry Petryshyn referencing the history of Ukrainians in Alberta, and especially the Woronuk family.

Oliver H. Johnson fonds

The fonds consists of the 1908-1909 homestead diary of Oliver H. Johnson. It provides a daily record of his activities as he broke land, built a house, barn, and other structures, interacted with his neighbours, including the Stones, Sinclairs, Fergusons, Bredins, Hardins, Smiths, Germaine, Arnold, Allie Brick, Mead & Grant, members of the Beaver First Nation, and others, and travelled back to Edmonton to join his family. The last few pages of the diary list recipes, drugs, groceries, dry goods, hardware, and accounts, some of which may date from his time as a storekeeper.

Pierre Lozeron family fonds

The fonds consists of Lozeron family photographs; personal papers and correspondence of each member of the immediate family -- Pierre, Dora Koberg Lozeron, Paul, Homer and Andre; farm documents from as early as 1915; farm account books from the 1930s to the 1960s; farming information from the 1950s and 1960s files according to the UGG filing system; and correspondence from their extended family members in Switzerland, friends and family members in Canada and the United States. The correspondence dates back to 1910, when the Lozeron boys first left Switzerland.

Pioneer Broadcasting (CJXX) fonds

The fonds consists of financial documents (1981-1982), a newsclipping showing the five directors at the opening of radio station in 1979, a folder showing CJXX logo and slogan "Your Brand of Radio", and a memories document written by Pat Schneider. An accrual consists of scripts from the Heritage program delivered over radio from Dec.1979 until Dec. 1985. The scripts were written by Joan Yates from 1979-1981, by Heather Kirk in 1982 and 1983 and by Janice Epp in 1984 and 1985. Another series called "On This Day in 1958" sent on air in 1983 and was written by Heather Kirk. The material researched for the Heritage series was provided by the Isabel Campbell Archival Collection. A second accrual consists of a day's program log for CJXX from Wednesday, July 6, 1983.

Priscilla Gilmour fonds

The fonds consists of: a 78 page diary; photographs of Mrs. Gilmour, (with the Lake Saskatoon Church group ca. 1920, and when she was 90 years of age); and a Succeeding Generations Scroll, from the Grande Prairie District Oldtimers Association for Elsie Denney, a grand-daughter of the Gilmour's.

The fonds consists of correspondence, seed registration certificates, award and honours, a scrapbook and newspaper clippings, an interview and historical notes, photographs of family and community interest, and booklets about the history of Grande Prairie and area.

The fonds is divided into three series: Personal Papers, Photographs, and Booklets. It has been arranged by the Archivist by record type, then chronologically.

Dr. Lloyd Austin ran a religious commune on his homestead on the NE6-71-5-W6, southeast of the City of Grande Prairie. This land was homesteaded by Dr. Lloyd Austin ca. 1930 and turned over to Billy Blair after the Austins left the area.

William “Billy” Blair was born in 1886. He worked as a camp cook for Henry Selby, who surveyed land east of the fifth meridian, in 1905.

William Blair died in 1995 and is buried in the Grande Prairie Cemetery.

The material in this collection contains records related to Dr. Lloyd Austin’s religious commune.

The record consists of 15 photographs of the dilapidated buildings of a religious commune located on the NE 6-71-5-W6, on the banks of Bear Creek south-east of the City and one 40-minute oral history.
