Spirit River Settlement Historical Society fonds

The fonds consists of records of the Spirit River Settlement Historical Society including executive records and records of their History Book Committee which consist of planning documents, financial records, minutes and correspondence, and original and/or edited copies of submissions to the Spirit River history book Chepi Sepe. The first sections of the Book Committee records include a history of the general region and the Spirit River Settlement area, the coming of settlers and the growth of agriculture, businesses, industries, municipal governments, the history of veterans of WWI and WWII, schools, churches, medical facilities, and cultural and recreational groups. The second main body of the records contains original and/or edited copies of over 630 family histories arranged in alphabetical order by surname.

The Argonauts Limited fonds

The fonds consists of three Counter Sales books and a 1916 Report of the Storage Possibilities of Bear Lake and Power Possibilities of Bear Creek which reflect the activities of The Argonauts Limited. The first of the Sales books, labeled as originally belonging to W.A. Rae and dated 1910-1915, appears to record Company expenses and lot sales, wages, lumber orders for the sawmill, food purchases for the camp and sales of clothing to workers. The second Counter Sales book, dated 1911-1914 and 1922, contains some of the same records as well as Customer Accounts. The third book, stamped The Argonauts Limited, contains similar records for 1915-1917, but also includes insurance sales and insurance vacancy permits for 1936-1937. Since the Argonauts had disbanded by then, this may be the records of Charles Spencer's Prairie City Agency. The report on Bear Creek and Bear Lake, conducted by the Department of the Interior, includes correspondence directed to W.A. Rae, and 20 photographs of Bear Creek and Bear Lake.

Tom Lessard fonds

The fonds consists of six billing books from Lessard's Garage, two for "Lavage" or laundry from 1955 to 1972, and four for Eaglesham Light and Power from 1950 to 1954. A list of accounts covers many businesses in Eaglesham: hotels, restaurants, retail stores, garages, dealerships, grain elevators, community hall, pool hall, school, teacherage, family residences, church and convent, and railway station. There is also a letter and a newsletter from The Utility Operator in 1970-71 when Tom attended First Year Operator's School.

It includes a list of the U.G.G. managers at Sexsmith from 1925 to 1985, a list of the Chairmen, Secretaries and other members who were involved with Local #423, and some newspaper articles regarding the opening of the 1964 elevator.

Included are invoices from Sexsmith Supplies Ltd., Canadian Utilities (for street lighting), Northern Alberta Railways, Municipal Supplies Ltd., Province of Alberta taxation notices, North Alberta Land Registration District, contract labourers, Grande Prairie Municipal Hospital District, Florist A.F. Hubler, M.D. of Grande Prairie No. 780, Saskatoon Fire Engine Company Ltd., McMillan Hardware, Midland & Pacific Grain Corporation, There is also a Government of the Province of Alberta invoice under The Old Age Pensions Act listing the five old age pensioners within the limits of the Village of Sexsmith.
