This fonds cover Tom Peterson's research into the local history of the Yellowhead County area, including Jasper and Hinton. This collection was first developed by Peterson's stepmother, Constance Peterson (Barton), who was an early historian of the area, and added to over the years during Peterson's long tenure as a local guide and historian. Some of the significant topics represented in this collection are: early occupation and settlement of Yellowhead County, the foundation of Jasper National Park, Canadian Pacific Railway surveys, and Peterson’s various historical tours. The fonds mainly consists of textual material, including newspaper articles, handwritten notes, and photocopies of material that Peterson considered useful for his research, as well as many photographs of various trips around the Hinton-Jasper region. This fonds contains records related to the Grimm, Vader, and Scott families. The material is largely concerned with time spent in Rycroft but this fonds also contains records created in Nebraska, Spirit River, and Calgary. The records consist of approximately 1500 photographs and negatives depicting farm life, school classes, locations, and people; newspaper clippings, pamphlets; posters; 2 family histories; 2 undated and unlabeled photograph albums; account books; and certificates.
The fonds has been arranged into the following series: Vader Family (1800-1980), Grimm family (1800-1980), and Ora and Edith [Vader] Grimm (1908-2008).
Consists of minutes plus related documents (1947-2015, incomplete); Society papers including constitutions, bylaws, and incorporations records; administration records including membership, financial reports, guest registers, and insurance; historical research including written biographies, 45 audio recordings and interviews of early pioneers (1950-1981), over 30 video interviews conducted as part of the Living History project (2011-2021) as well as subject files, student papers, and records of the Preservation and Research Committee; special projects such as Altaglass inventories and sales, centennial projects (including working towards a new museum building, and the short-lived Historic Resource Development Alliance; Publications including the Bulletin and Smoke Signals newsletters (1972-2008), as well as miscellaneous historical materials including Cummins Rural Directory maps, pamphlets, envelopes and other minor ephemera.
Fonds consists of records relating to the administration of the Archives Society of Alberta (ASA), including minutes, reports, correspondence, business records, newsletters, posters, surveys, seminar and workshop papers, reviews, and membership lists.
The accession includes: tax receipts for NW 18-68-21-W4, carbon copy of ASD No. 42 Regular Monthly Meeting notes for August 14, 1952, correspondence for the Farmers' Union of Alberta, 1956 - 1957, United Farmers of Alberta share certificates and dividend statements, correspondence concerning rural electrification, and a carbon copy of County of Athabasca member purchases, 1963.
Photos of Richmond Park School students from 1958 - 1963 were framed and displayed on the school walls during the Richmond Park Homecoming weekend, September 3 - 4, 2016.
The fonds consists of records of Edna's Camrose Normal School "criticism of lesson" reports and other documents related to teacher training (1921-1958), a sample lesson plan (1922), two teaching certificates,(1923, 1958), superintendents' reports from the schools where she taught (1925-1926), correspondence from school authorities and from students' parents, (1923-1977), a biography by Gordon, the given by J.E. Birdsall in honour of Gordon, a speech given at his funeral and two issues of the Ford Farming magazine (Spring, Fall 1953), a Swanavon School opening program, a copy of a travel itinerary, her Christmas greetings letter (1989), and seven photographs related to her school history. Gordon's records include a Dept. of Agriculture letter asking him to serve as a director of the W.W. Albright Scholarship Fund, a news clipping showing a group of Canadians admiring his prize oat sample (1946-1953) and "The Book of Mom which Alice (Moyer) Lewis has written about growing up in Elmworth.
