The fonds consists of a large collection of images which portray life in the Western prairies, primarily from the 1880s to 1912. Images include native encampments, both Cree and Blackfoot; early Metis buffalo hunters and settlers; portraits of Crowfoot, Father Lacombe and John Ware; Red River carts; NWMP scouts, patrols, military, and local militia during the Riel Rebellion. Various aspects of early railroad history are depicted which include the Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and Great Falls, Montana areas. There are also views of early pioneer life in the Medicine Hat region (1883), including local views, ranching life, and family portraits.
